FAQs

What is the concept behind this zine?

BNHA.MP3 is conceptualized as a digital zine, featuring idyllic illustrations of characters going about the quiet activities of everyday life and comforting, rainy day-type ASMR audios. To this end, we'll be seeking full-art illustrators and vocal artists to number among our contributors - as well as some select slots for poets, short storyists, and spot illustrators.

Who are the mods managing this zine?

SFW or NSFW?

This zine will be strictly SFW, with most pieces centering around just one character at a time.

Do you allow ship depictions?

We will not be featuring ship depictions of any sort for this zine, as we feel such content might distract from our central comfort aspect.

Is this zine for profit? Or for charity?

Our zine will be for charity, and we have selected NAMI - the National Alliance on Mental Illness!

How will contributors be compensated?

Contributors will receive free copies of all digital files created for BNHA.MP3, as this is a digital-only zine!

Can I apply for more than one position?

We fully encourage applicants to apply for more than one position! However, the only positions that can be accepted concurrently are for poets/short storyists and spot illustrators. This means, for example - if you were to apply as a full-art illustrator, you could also make spot illustrations or write poetry/short story, but you would NOT be accepted for a position as a vocal artist.

Will this zine accept scans of traditional art? What about cosplay?

We will accept traditional art so long as it is scanned to 300 dpi or above. To address the next question - while we love cosplay, we will not be accepting cosplay submissions for the purposes of this zine.

Am I required to have completed a piece in the BNHA fandom before to apply to be a contributor?

You don't have to have completed a piece within the BNHA fandom before to apply - however, any sample you can provide us featuring BNHA characters is much appreciated so we can better ascertain how your style of content blends with the 'verse we are based in!

We strongly encourage any vocal artists interested in applying to submit a sample voicing any character(s) you'd enjoy depicting for our zine!

Will this zine be exclusive to anime and/or manga content?

This zine will be accepting pieces containing manga content, and even potentially major manga spoilers. This is so we can be sure to include as many fans' comfort characters as possible within the scope of our zine!

May my samples/portfolio for my application contain NSFW pieces?

Since this zine is SFW and we will be allowing creators/mods who are minors to be involved in our process, we ask that you please refrain from submitting NSFW pieces in your samples/portfolio.

What are the results of the interest check?

I have another question. Where can I direct my inquiry?

Guidelines - For Contributors

For Vocal Artists //

  • Will voice an in-character comfort audio, approx. 20 min in length.

  • Audios should focus on one character (max. of 2) in a general, slice of life-type setting.

  • Audio should be of clear quality, with minimized background noise except soft ambient sounds where appropriate.

For Script Writers //

  • Will collaborate with a vocal artist who requires a pre-written script (by this, we mean any vocal artist who makes the choice not to write their own script or improv) to construct an in-character, first-person script appropriate for approx. 20 min of audio time.

  • Scripts should run roughly 2k - 2.5k words, depending on the speed at which the vocal artist speaks. Works should include notes on audio cues/tone where appropriate, and should be based upon a comforting, slice-of-life theme.

  • Works should include a max. of 2 characters speaking, and can be written as either the character(s) speaking to the listener or the character(s) speaking aloud to themselves.

For Illustrators //

  • Will illustrate an original, full-color piece spotlighting a single character (max. of 3) in a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Traditional art is welcome!

  • Pieces should portray a comforting, slice of life-type setting with no blood, violence, illicit substances, or sexual themes.

For Poets, Short Story Writers, + Spot Illustrators //

  • POETS - Will construct original pieces, created new for BNHA.MP3. Poetry should convey comforting, idyllic themes without any portrayals of blood, violence, illicit substances, or sexual themes. Free verse of at least 6 lines, no longer than a page in length.

  • SHORT STORY - Will write original pieces, created new for BNHA.MP3, on comforting idyllic themes featuring BNHA characters. Final works will be approx. 1k in length.

  • SPOT ILLUSTRATORS - Intended for busy artists (or artists new to zines!) who do not want to commit to a full-colored piece. Spot illustrators will be responsible for a small original piece (free-floating motif, minimal background) in a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Interest Checks + Data

Why two interest checks?

There are a few reasons we decided to go through multiple interest checks. The first interest check was primarily geared toward basic zine information - how many contributors should be included, what sort of content fans would like to see, etc. However, it has been our experience that just one interest check might not be as representative of fan's wishes as we'd like, considering many zines don't gain a significant following until well after the close of their interest checks. We wanted our data to be as accurate as possible!

Our second interest check was directed toward obtaining a list of recommendations for guest contributors. We preferred to solicit this information after our zine had some time to gain traction, so as many fans as possible could have a chance to submit recommendations to us! We hope you'll understand this reasoning.

Interest Check Results

Thank you so much for your lovely responses! Please view the results in the video below.

Meet the Mods

We asked and they answered - which BNHA character needs the most rest?

Heya, guys! The name's Keats, and I'm heading this zine along with my co-head mod, Mari. In fandom, I hail mostly from the writer side of things, and have contributed to several zines as such, including Breakaway: A Hawks Zine, Pro Hero Academia, and Metamorphos. I have dabbled in almost every aspect of zine modding, and I'm also the Head Mod of BNHA-borne!

HEAD MOD
MARI

Hello everyone, I'm Mari! I am a professional jungle (I call it my room) hermit who primarily creates poetry, but I write all types of fiction. I've written poems and recipes for various zines, and I am currently the Writing Mod for BNHA-borne. I hope you all find this project to be as fun as I do!
